Language Analysis Tool
Humanizing, nuanced language is essential to creating accurate journalism for our communities. We’ve created a browser extension to help reporters make informed word choices while they’re reporting.
Our prototype is a Chrome and Firefox extension that assists writers working in Google Docs. It flags 50+ terms related to excluded, marginalized, and misrepresented communities and provides users with context and usage guidance as well as suggested replacements, highlighting those preferred by the community in question.
We’re working with community engagement software firm Public Input to further develop this software in 2022 so writers and content creators from journalism to local government and beyond can access its suggestions in online rich-text writing environments.
